Team Meeting

Wednesday, March 30 at 3:00pm

at the Tent at the Old Course

For the few of you that haven't gotten a Zelle account yet, help will be available after the meeting. Also, don't forget to put the Golf Genius app on your smart phone for the meeting.

As if that wasn't enough technology, this year we are going to use a simplified sign up system for our matches which will be embedded in my weekly newsletter. We will not be using ForeTees. I have tested my set up every possible way. The only problem that I foresee is that if someone isn't ready to sign up when they first get the newsletter, they may have a hard time getting back to the newsletter. To prevent this, we need to setup a shortcut on your desktop for a computer or on the homepage for a smart phone. So here are the steps:

                On a PC:

Right click on the desktop (where all your icons are)

Choose "new" from the drop down menu

Choose "shortcut" from the next menu

                    Type in "http://sclgolf.com/newsletter"

                    Click on "next"

When it asks for a name, type in "Newsletter"

                     Click on "finish"

You will now have an icon on the desktop that you can double click to get to the latest newsletter at any time. This will give you access to the sign up system.

                 On an Iphone:

While you are in the newsletter, at the bottom of the screen there will be a square                               with an up arrow in the top half            tap on that

Scroll down to "Add to Home Screen" and tap on that

Click on "Add" in the upper right hand corner

That will create an icon           on your home page as an app

                 On an Android:

While in the newsletter, tap on the three dots at the top right corner of the screen

Scroll down to "Add to the home screen"

Type in the name, "Newsletter", and tap on "Add"

Please test drive the sign up system by clicking or taping on the button below. You can actually do a sign up, but these will not count. Let me know if you encounter any issues.

First a bookkeeping issue. There was a miscommunication on the payment for the uniforms. It was supposed to be paid out of the $65 fee that you already paid, but it was billed again to your account. That charge will be on your April 1 bill, but you will be credited that amount on the May 1 bill. Sorry for the confusion.

For those of you that couldn't attend the meeting, you can pick up your uniforms at the Old Course pro shop. I am also including notes from the meeting below. The link to the practice sign up is at the end of the page if anyone would like to test drive it.

Notes from 2022 Team Meeting

We have 57 members on the roster this year with indexes ranging from 1.9 to 28.7, and we have 7 new members. Roger Levine, Irwin Isser, Michael Chalef, Richard Rosenberg, Brad Knopf, Barry Yurman, and Brian Friedman. Welcome.

We have 12 clubs in the league this year. There will be two divisions of 6 teams each. We will be in the upper division which consists of the 6 teams that made the playoffs in 2019. We will be playing home & home matches with Boca Pointe, Boca Woods, Delaire, Gleneagles, and Polo. We will also have 4 interdivision matches with Indian Spring, Stonebridge, Aberdeen, and the Fountains. The top three teams from each division make the playoffs which will be in September. The first place team gets a bye and plays the winner of the 2nd and 3rd place team’s match. The winners of the two divisions play for the league championship.

Each week we have front & back tee matches. Players with indexes of 15.9 and above are front tee players. We currently have 32 front tee players and 25 back tee players. The number of matches each week is dependent on the number of players our opponents can provide.

Our goal is to play as many people as possible every week while fielding a competitive team.

The format consists of four-ball matches with Nassau like scoring. An individual match will consist of three points, one for the front nine, one for the back nine, and one for the overall match. For the overall team score, all of the front nine points from the individual matches are added up, all of the back nine points are added up, and all of the match points are added up. The club with the highest total in each segment gets a point. A tie would be a half point for that segment. The front and back is determined by the score card without regard to where you started play. A rain out would result in 1.5 points for each team.

To be considered for a match, you must sign up  by 3:00 PM on the Friday before the match. We are going to use the sign up system that I debuted in the previous newsletter (you can try it below). There will be sign ups for the next two weeks in each newsletter starting two weeks before our April 27th match. When you sign up the first time, it will ask for you name and email address. If you check the “remember my details” box, you don’t have to enter them again. (The current sign ups attached to this newsletter are just for practice. They do not actually sign you up for a match.)

We will inform you whether or not you have been chosen to play in the match by email by the end of the day on Saturday. By league rule, roster changes can be made up until 3:00 pm on the Tuesday before the match.

Each match has a bagel and coffee breakfast before, an 8:30 shotgun, and a buffet lunch after. The cost for a home match is $20 which will be billed to your account. The cost for an away game is $50 and will need to be paid via Zelle (not to be confused with Venmo) to my email address when you get the email informing you that you are playing. Make sure that I am in the contacts on the smart phone with the Zelle account with my name and email address(Lstoneboca@gmail.com).

Golf Genius will be used for contemporaneous scoring and leader board for home matches. One of our players in each foursome will be responsible for entering the scores for each hole in the app for the entire foursome. Each score card will have a Golf Genius ID (GGID) in the lower right corner of the score card. The GGID will be specific for each foursome. To see how the app looks, you can log on with this demo GGID - VFYCSS.

The team uniform is navy blue shorts or pants with our shirts and hats.

April 4, 2022

We are only three weeks away from the beginning of the season. I hope you are as excited about it as I am. We haven't had a full season since 2019. I also hope that you like our uniform. Last year's was a hard act to follow. By the way, the pants or shorts are preferably navy blue.

I  generally post sign ups only two weeks before a match, because people tend to forget they signed up if there is a longer lead time ( I speak from experience), but since I will be out of the country for ten days, I am posting our first event now.

Please be aware that any sign ups prior to this newsletter were for demonstration purposes only and DID NOT COUNT.

As of this moment, we are going live. When you register for an event on the next page, you will receive a confirmation email. If you do not, you may not be signed up. The sign ups will be available on every newsletter, and you should receive a newsletter link every Wednesday starting April 20. You can get back to the newsletter any time by going to sclgolf.com/newsletter

April 20, 2022

A week from today is our first match. We will be playing Polo at home. The sign up for that match will be active until Friday at 3:00 pm. The teams will be selected by Saturday. We will let you know if you are playing ASAP. Our hope is that Polo can match our available roster so that everyone can play. The sign up for the second match at Boca Pointe is also now available.

The sign ups will be available on every newsletter, and you should receive a newsletter link every Wednesday. You can get back to the newsletter any time by going to sclgolf.com/newsletter

April 27, 2022

Today was the first match of the season, and we had as many alternates as participants. In all the years that I've been doing this, I don't think that I have ever seen that. The good news is that 32 of our team members had a great day of golf and most had an excellent lunch. Oh, bye the way, we won all three points in our match with Polo putting us in first place in our division.

Below, is the link to the sign ups for our next two matches. Next week at Boca Pointe and the week after vs Glenegles at home. The Boca Pointe match will be our first away match and will also be the debut of our Zelle process. If anyone has a problem, don't hesitate to give me a call.

Remember that the sign up for next week ends at 3:00 pm on Friday.

May 4, 2022

Today we won two points out of three at Boca Pointe. Next week we play at home vs our archrival Gleneagles. We are tied with them for first place in our division. This is a very important match, and we will have a good number of pairings available. We need all hands onboard, especially more back tee players, so please sign up below by 3:00 pm on Friday. The following week, May 18 we are off with a bye.

I am pleased to report that my experiment using Zelle to collect money for away matches was a total success. We had 100% compliance, and we all got to sleep a little later. I want to thank you all for your cooperation.

Here is a heads up for future reference. We had a couple of situations today where the result posted for those matches weren't the result that the players remembered, but they were the results that were on the scorecard that was submitted. The lesson to be learned is to check the scorecard before it is passed in, because once it is in, it is official.

On a personal note, as we travel to different clubs through the years and watch how events are handled elsewhere, I hope we all appreciate what we have at Broken Sound. From the pro shop staff, to food and beverage, to event planning, to management, we are very fortunate. Imagine what it will be like with a great new clubhouse.

May 11, 2022

This was a dream week for Harvey, Howard, and me. We got to play all 36 people that signed up in our match with Gleneagles at home. Unfortunately, the dream turned into a bit of a nightmare when we were able to win only one of the three points in the match. The highlight of the day was Mike Chalef's hole in one. He did win that hole, but one of their opponents, Barry Edelman, playing as 1 handicap, had a career round shooting a 67. Mike will be receiving a $100.00 check from the league for his hole in one during league competition.

After today, we are in second place in our division one point behind Gleneagles. We play them again at their place on June 15.

Next week we are off. In two weeks we play at Delaire. To sign up for that match, click on the link below. To get back to this newsletter and the sign up app at any time, the URL is sclgolf.com/newsletter.

May 18, 2022

This week we were off , but I'm sure we're all anxious to get back into action. Elsewhere, Gleneagles won all 3 points keeping them solidly in first place by point count.

Going forward, you can't look at the standings without looking at the schedule. Due to the challenges of scheduling for us this year, we have two bye weeks with make ups in August. In baseball, you can look at the winning percentage to compare even if teams have played a different number of games. Since our standings are based on accumulated points in a three point system, it is not so clear. The best comparison would be to track the percentage of availble points won by each team at any given point in time. We will be behind other teams like Gleneagles who do not have any byes just by virtue of the schedule. As of now, we are one match behind, and after July 20, we will be two behind. We may not know our playoff situation until the middle of August when we catch up.

Next week we play at Delaire. Needlss to say, but I will anyway, this is an important match.

June 1, 2022

This week, we took all three points from Polo in an away match for us while Gleneagles won 3 points at home from Boca Pointe. As a result, we maintain our second place position with a game in hand compared to Gleneagles, but Delaire has a game in hand and Boca Woods has two games in hand compared to us.

Next week we are back at home for a rematch with Boca Pointe.  To sign up for that match and the match the following week at Gleneagles, click on the link below. The match at Gleneagles will be our biggest match of the regular season.

June 8, 2022

There's an expression, "the cream will rise to the top". We definitely saw that today on our home course. In spite of the fact that we were giving net 72 shots in 11 matches, our team won 27 out of a potential 33 points to claim a 3 to 0 victory over Boca Pointe. Meanwhile, Delaire played Gleneagles to a tie.

Next week we are at Gleneagles for a rematch. We lost 2 to 1 at home to them earlier this year.  The match at Gleneagles will be our biggest match of the regular season. They now have 16 points, and we have 13.5 with a game in hand. If we win 3 points next week, we will be in first place and still have a game in hand.

To sign up for that match, and the match the following week at Boca Woods, click on the link below.
