2024 Team Schedule

Broken Sound Schedule.jpg

Newsletter of April 24, 2024

Today, our season got off to an exciting but somewhat disappointing start. We lost to Gleneagles at their course 9.63 to 9.37 while Stonebridge was beating Wycliffe at home 10.27 to 8.73.

While we are talking about scores, I need to review the scoring process again since there seemed to be some misunderstanding today. We use a 19 point scoring system. In each foursome, you get a point for every hole you win and a half point for every hole you tie. That would result in a total of 18 points between the two twosomes. In addition, the twosome that wins more points gets an extra point for winning. That is the 19th point. If it's a tie each twosome gets an extra half point. To determine the overall team score, we add all the points together. To be able to compare to other matches being played which may have more or less matches than we do, we take the team's total score and divide it by the number of matches to get the score for the day. In our case today, we got 9.37 points by taking our total points of 140.50 and divided it by 15 (the number of matches). Since every point counts, each match needs to be competitive through 18 holes even if you are far behind in your particular match. That next hole could provide just the additional point we need to win as a team. Remember, it is not the number of matches won but the total number of points we get. There have been times where a team has won on points even though they lost more matches than they won, because they won by wider margins than they lost by.

Having said that, now it's time to prepare for our next match next Wednesday vs Boca Lago at the Old Course. The sign up for this match is open on ForeTees as is the match for the following week (5/8) at Indian Spring. For you new members, you do not have to be a member of the Old Course to play in matches held there.

If you sign up, look for the notification email over the weekend. We try to get it out on Saturday if we can get cooperation from the other club. Also be sure to reply immediately to that email if asked to do so. Having to go searching for an answer makes our job much more difficult. Thanking you in advance for your cooperation.

Next Wednesday, will have a full compliment of matches across the league. Let's make a statement.
