Newsletter - June 11, 2025

Today, we had a pretty good day as we exacted revenge on Boca West at their course for the loss we took from them at our course earlier in the season. Out of 11 matches, we won 6 and tied 2 for a score of 6.36 to 3.64 which improved our average score from 5.62 to 5.77, but, unfortunately, Boca Woods took 7.73 points from Wycliffe today which moved them into first place 0.07 points ahead of us. The good news is that our next match in two weeks will be against the aforementioned Boca Woods at our course.

This week's rule discussion falls under the category, "I bet you didn't know that." In match play, it is often a strategy to give a player a putt so that he doesn't show his partner the line. What happens if that player proceeds to put anyway? I'm sure, if asked, most of you would say there is a penalty, and most you would probably say that that team loses the hole. Suprise, that is not the answer. The correct answer is that the offending player's ball counts including the conceded putt, but his partner is out of the hole. Rule 23.6

Next week, we have a bye, and the following week is Boca Woods at the Club Course.
